Ms. Noufia, the silver medal winner in CPSFI Athletic Championship was accorded a warm welcome at Kayamkulam Railway Station on Monday (9th May 2022) evening. Smt. G Jayasree (Principal RVSM HSS), teachers Smt. Anjana, Smt. Sheeja Kurian and Smt. Deepa arrived early to receive their student. Smt. Ambujakshy (President, Muthukulam Block Panchayat) and Sri. Pavananathan (President, Devikulangara Grama Panchayat) joined the teachers to congratulate the little star. Ms. Noufia, studying in Plus One class of our school won the second position in 100 metres sprint at the recently concluded (4th to 7th May) athletic championship of Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of India at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
Noufia’s journey to the championship was not smooth. She was spotted by Ms. Girija (Co-ordinator CPSFI Kerala) through BRC (Block Resource Centre) of SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhiyan). Her request to train Ms. Noufia for the athletic championship was accepted by Mr. S Sreejith, Physical Education Teacher of our school. Noufia had no exposure to sports or games, nor had any confidence to take part in any such event. Mr. Sreejith took up the challenge and tried Noufia’s performance with events as sprint, long jump, shot put, javelin and discus. He zeroed in to 100 metres sprint and Noufia needed a lot of persuasion, encouragement and consoling. Noufia needed more strength, flexibility and speed to be a winner and Mr. Sreejith slowly built up everything. Sreejith remembers the support of Noufia’s mother who stood with her through the days of training.
Noufia was one among the five-member team of Kerala. The state contingent was led by Ms. Girija and her Husband Mr. Madhu who too an office-bearer of CPSFI Kerala. Noufia covered the event in 23 seconds to win the silver medal in 100 metres sprint. The other team members participated in events in sprint, Javelin, Discus and Long-jump. Kerala won one gold medal, two silver medals and three bronze medals at the national event and bagged the overall-championship.
