About Scouts & Guides
The Scouts & Guides is a voluntary, non-political movement for young people without any discrimination on origin, race or creed or sex. Founded in 1907 by Baden Powell, the Scouts & guides movement contributes to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials to make them responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.
Scouting was founded in India in 1909 as an overseas branch of the Scout Association and became a member of the World Organization of Scout Movement in 1938. Guiding in India started in 1911. The Bharat Scouts are divided into four sections based on the age as: Bunnies (Age 3-5), Cubs (Boys aged 5-10), Scouts (Boys aged 10-17), Rovers (Boys aged 15-25) and the Bharat Guides are divided into Bulbuls (Girls aged 5-10), Guides (Girls aged 10-17) and Rangers (Girls aged 15-25). At present, there are 63160 Scouts and 74918 Guides in Kerala alone. The Scout & Guide motto is: “Be prepared“.
